I’m big on planners. Writing things down in planners and notebooks helps me internalize what I have to do. As 2021 approaches, I’ve been looking for ways to prepare my planners and notebooks for the year, while also supporting Black-owned businesses. Here’s a list of 10 Black-owned planner and journal companies to get you set for 2021.
1. Stormy Nesbit (@_stormae)
Stormy Nesbit is a graphic designer and visual storyteller who offers a variety of products from planners and journals to prints and custom illustrations. If you’re looking for a planner, you have your pick from a number of cover options Stormy provides. Her items sell out fast, but I was able to snag this notebook.
2. Her Space Co. (@herspaceco)
HerSpace Co. is a lifestyle brand for the modern woman who desires to live and evolve intentionally. The Layered Living Planner is a comprehensive planner that covers 12 areas of your life (e.g. finances, home & living space, career, dreams, and more).
3. Onyx Paper Co. (@_onyxpaperco)
For something different, you can head over to Onyx Paper Company provides aesthetic, intentional, minimal, and maximal journaling cards and planner dashboards. If you don’t know what a journaling card is or how to use one, check out this post.
4. Aya Paper Co. (@ayapaperco)
Aya’s collection is defined by neutral earth tones, minimalist illustrations, and modern typography. The collection emphasizes cards but in addition to cards, Aya has produced notecard sets, journals, tote bags, and candles.
5. Garden24 (@garden24co)
Garden 24 is a brand by Morgan Harper Nichols, a poet, podcaster, and artist. The planner includes 12-month tab dividers (January 2021 to December 2021), a monthly grid spread, weekly planning pages, and 2 sticker sheets with foil and storage pockets.
6. Addie Rawr (@addierawr)
Addie Rawr is an illustrator who owns a shop that sells a number of unique reflective journals such as a gratitude journal, growth journal, and a goal getter journal.
7. ByBriaLynn
ByBriaLynn on Etsy creates planners for millennial women. The founder, Bria Davenport, sells planners in physical and digital form as well as daily planner sheets.
8. Ankara Notes
If Ankara print is more of your vibe, Ankara Notes on Etsy sells journals, notebooks, and greeting cards with Ankara prints and themes incorporated.
9. Copper and Brass Paper
Copper and Brass Paper is a brand on Etsy that sells notebooks and stationery items with themed illustrations of Black women. Obviously, as an AKA, I’m partial to this notebook, but there are a ton of other great options at the shop.
10. Cloth and Paper (@cloth_and_paper)
Cloth and Paper is a Black-owned planner company that sells a ton of stationery and planner accessories, specifically planner inserts. If you take a look, you’ll see this is perfect for someone looking for luxe and minimalist vibes. The options on this site are endless.
