Makeup primer serves as a base to help your foundation go on smoother and last longer. Primer is also important because it preps your skin and gives it an optimal texture and finish before makeup application. Lately, in my foundation routine I’ve been focusing more on how I prep my skin through both my skincare routine and makeup primers. Here’s my list of the best primers for flawless makeup (and skin). Keep in mind all of these primers are ones that I consistently use. I have others, but I typically reach for any of these four:
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
This is the first primer that I ever used and trust me, it set the bar high for other primers I’d buy after. Every time I use it, it reminds me why it’s named “veil” mineral primer. It immediately feels like a thin layer or veil of protection on my skin. A little bit of this primer goes a long way. Do not be alarmed if there is a subtle bluish, purple tint. This cool hue not only helps cover redness, but also almost disappears once you blend in your makeup. Overall the primer gives you the best smooth textured skin for your makeup to go on flawlessly. As someone with combination skin, it works well for both my oily and dry areas of my face.
Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer
For a while, when I wanted to combat oil, I deferred to the most mattifying primers possible. Unfortunately that drew more oil out of my skin. Ultimately my skin tried to compensate by producing even more oil. Now, I know that hydrating primers are the key to healthy texture and glowing skin hours after applying makeup.
According to the product’s creators, Hangover Rx acts like an “energy drink for the skin by replenishing moisture levels”. If you’re looking for the primer to give you a beautiful, healthy and dewy glow, this is it! Honestly this primer is so good for my skin, I wear it without makeup sometimes too. I own this is in a travel size as well because after a long plane ride, this it’s just the primer my skin needs to replenish hydration.
Milk Hydro Grip Primer
There was a lot of buzz when this primer first dropped. I featured my own first impressions and a wear test in a previous Sephora haul video. Since then I have fallen in LOVE with this primer. It immediately hydrates my skin. Although it feels sticky, I promise it’s in a good way and meant to grip your makeup. It also has pleasant, cooling effects to your skin when you apply. My skin looks glossy and dewy after I put it on. Just enough to give you the glow you’re looking for without turning you into a grease ball.
Farsali Skintune Blur
As a “primer-serum”, Skintune blur is meant to reduce the appearance of pores to create a fine tuned effect. I have to admit that at first, I didn’t want to believe the hype. I especially didn’t want to drop $54 dollars for a product if it would not live up to its name. But I stand corrected. Because of the dropper applicator (and to be honest the steep price), I use this as a spot primer only in the areas of my face with the most visible pores. My pores tend to be the most visible in the cheek area under my eye so I apply it there and I see an immediate, noticeable difference!
WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE PRIMERS FOR FLAWLESS MAKEUP?
“Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” 1 Timothy 6: 18-19
