It’s crazy to think that I’m going into my last year of law school. Time flies (sort of, because last year was truly a long one) and it seems like yesterday I was announcing where I was going to law school. Seeing as this will be my last year of school ever (although never say never? jk) I figured I’d pimp out my law school desk with some additions to make the space more aesthetically pleasing and functional. For the original post on how I organize my law school desk, check out this post. But here’s a rundown of the things that I added to my space this time around.
Desk Pad/Protector
I originally added contact paper to my desk to allow it to fit the bright and light color scheme of my room. Over the years the quality of the contact paper has deteriorated, but I’m truly not going through the effort of removing or redoing it until I move out. I added this desk pad to cover up some of the pesky cracks in the contact paper on my desk. But honestly, this desk pad is a great way to protect your desk from scratches or spills while adding a pop of color that may supplement your decor.
Logitech Keyboard and Mouse
Many people opt to get second screens for their law school work. It makes dealing with the countless tabs and apps we tend to have open easier. I decided to go with an iPad because it allowed me to stimulate handwritten notetaking. I stand my decision, but adding a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse gives my iPad a little more versatility. now it almost serves as a second computer screen and with the exception of Microsoft word, I have the ability to do everything on my iPad that I would do on my normal Macbook.
Blue Light Glasses
Staring at my computer screen for all hours of the day really does a number on my eyes. Though I wear prescription glasses, I don’t need to use them when I’m working at my desk. This creates the perfect opportunity for some blue light glasses to protect my eyes. I have a pair from Carrot and I love that they’re are stylish and comfortable for long wear. I have the style “Phoenix” in Rich Amber.
iPad/Tablet Stand
Of course, in order to have my iPad stimulate a computer, it needs to be up on a stand. I have a similar stand for my laptop that helps me maintain better posture while working throughout the day.
4-in-1 Charging Station
The most frustrating thing about my previous desk setup was the number of wires I needed out to charge all of my devices. I had less USB/USB-C/outlet space than I had devices and it made my desk space look cluttered. I finally got a charging station to centralize the charging of all these devices. This charging station can charge my airpods, apple watch, iPhone, and Apple Pencil (even though I keep my Apple Pencil charging on my iPad.) I will give the caveat that the charging power doesn’t seem to be that strong, probably because it split the power source between three devices. I still recommend a charging station to help organize your devices as they charge, but perhaps find one that does a better job of charging.
Cardboard Magazine Holders
To create more space on my desktop, I moved the planners and notebooks that I had originally placed on my desk into magazine holders. This allowed my desk space for me to place my acrylic memo board with my to-do list. This also works great as an aesthetically pleasing way to hold things like casebooks and readers for class.
Papier Planners and Notepads
Last but not least, I was able to up my planner game because Papier gifted me a personalized academic planner, weekly planner, lined notebook, set of list notepads, and a pen to match. As someone who prefers to handwrite tasks and assignments in planners, this is truly going to be the best way to stay organized. The academic planner accounts for things like assignments, class schedules, and random tasks. As a creator, the weekly planner will also help me keep tabs on things that I need to get done outside of the academic context. I’m excited to dive deep into using both of these for the academic year. For a breakdown of how I color code using planners check out this post.
With all of that added, I feel like my law school desk is officially complete. If you are starting a new school year either as a student or even as a teacher, I wish you the best of luck and blessings for a successful year ahead!
