My 2019 Makeup Favorites

It seems like 2019 was filled with a TON of new makeup launches. It’s so hard to pick between all of them, and more importantly it was so hard to practice restraint and not buy all of them. But here are my top picks for makeup products released in 2019. All of these products were released this year and quickly became my favorite products to reach for when putting together a look!

Milk Hydro Grip Primer

It takes a lot for a primer to draw me away from my go to primer which is a combination of Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer and Farsali Skintune Blur. But Milk Makeup did something special with their hydro grip primer. When I put it on I instantly feel the cooling, hydrating effect. After a few seconds I fully come to understand why it’s called a gripping primer. It gets tacky and seems like it’ll truly lock your makeup in place, which is exactly what it does. I found this primer to be especially useful during the summer months when heat and humidity has your makeup sliding everywhere.

Jackie Aina x ABH Palette

Are you surprised this made the list? To be 100% truthful, when I initially saw the palette, I didn’t know if I was going to get it. I have SO many —perhaps too many— eyeshadow palettes, and the shades just didn’t seem like anything new that I didn’t already have. But, in the spirit of supporting the woman who singlehandedly taught me how to do my face makeup (I learned how to do eyes from my mom), I decided to get the palette. For one, I can say that this palette taught me that you don’t just get palettes for the individual colors included. You get them for the combination of colors. I’m not sure how I went so long into my makeup journey without realizing this. But this palette is truly beyond versatile. It’s gotten to the point where if I’m traveling or in a rush, I defer to this palette because there are just so many looks you can create with this. Kudos to Jackie for this one.

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation

Yes, this foundation is $68. It’s Pat and her prices are high. Why? I still don’t know. Her makeup is great and I also feel like we are paying for the packaging because it really is that sleek. At almost 70 dollars, the foundation was released along with a primer and setting powder. I opted to get only the foundation because anything else would have been too expensive and unnecessary, though I really want to try the setting powder. This foundation has grown on me as a perfect medium buildable foundation. It is very skin like. It’s the type of foundation you’d probably want to use on models for photoshoots or runway shows. I have no business doing either, but I actually really gravitated towards this product as time went on. I guess it also doesn’t hurt to support a black makeup creator.

Fenty Hydrating Foundation

Sorry not sorry but the original Fenty foundation never grew on me. It oxidized harshly and I really didn’t like the finish. I was a bit skeptical to try another Fenty foundation after I didn’t like the first one. However, when I fell in love with the Born This Way foundation (albeit a year after I originally reviewed it), I figured a hydrating, natural finish would be a better option for me. I was right. While I do normally have dry skin, I’ve been better at keeping it hydrated so I don’t think the fact that it was a hydrating foundation made that much of a difference for my skin. Generally speaking I think I just prefer the finish much more than the original one. I do get oily in the areas around my nose. That’s normal for me though. Overall I’d say this foundation is pretty similar to the Too Faced foundation but just a tad bit thinner consistency.

Fenty Sun Stalk’r Bronzer

I have a ton of bronzers but up until I got this one, bronzers from Prime Beauty were the only ones I genuinely liked to use regularly. As soon as I tried this bronzer I knew it was perfect for me, primarily because I like bronzers that are slightly more red when it comes to undertones. I do appreciate the shade range of this product, but I can also acknowledge that there should be darker shades. Check out swatches of other bronzers including this one here.

Natasha Denona Bloom Blush Palette

I’ve wanted to own Natasha Denona products for such a long time. I went back and forth as to whether I should get this product but time after time whenever I swatched it in store it looked so phenomenal on my skin—especially the blush. I don’t have too many cream blushes and highlights in my collection so this product was new for me in that regard. But truly it is so pigmented and it’s pretty much the only blush and highlight palette I use these days.
