I’m all about maintaining my skin’s glow, especially during the summer months. I’m also extremely particular about the products I put on my body, so today I’m sharing some of my favorite bodycare products for glowing skin.
Raw African Shea Butter (whipped)
This is the key. It’s been in my routine for years and made the difference between skin that needed lotion reapplied constantly, and skin that was hydrated and quenched for the day. To be clear, I do not use lotion. I use raw shea butter. When I lived in Queens I purchased this from the local African market. Now, I prefer to get my shea butter from the table vendors positioned on Harlem’s 125th Street.
Asé Naturals Lunar Body Oil
A recent addition to my routine as well, but I absolutely love how simple and easy it is to use this oil. On top of that, it’s multifaceted. You can add drops of the oil to a bath for a skin treatment. You can use it as a massage oil. Or, like I do, you can just apply it on your skin after you’ve showered to lock in moisture. It’s got a subtle natural smell, so if you’re not looking for anything too fragrant this is the one for you. Did I mentioned the product is from a Black owned brand?
Fenty Beauty Body Lava
This one is a classic. Though I will say I use this more for show when I want to be extra with glitter, and less for actually nourishing my skin. The downside to this product is that it can stain, so I usually stick to this when I have off the shoulder or strapless styles. For that reason it’s a seasonal favorite for summer. Quarantine life and not having many places to go has meant I’ve been reaching for this less and less, but that doesn’t mean the product is any less good. It’s currently on sale at Sephora for $17!
Sol de Janeiro SPF Oil & Copacabana Bronze Glow Oil
SPF Is important to wear, especially in the summer. I’ve found that many body sunscreens leave a white cast, but this SPF oil kills two birds with one stone: I get the SPF coverage I need, while keeping my skin looking luscious and smelling fragrant. (Maybe that counts as three birds but you get the point!)
As for the bronze glow oil, this reminds me of the Fenty Body Lava in that it is primarily for show, and it has the potential to stain. I like this because it is slightly lighter than the body lava and less sticky, but t also it comes in a travel size, which I currently have. (Though I haven’t done any travel in 2020 its nice to have a smaller size to take to photoshoots.)
Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Scrub
A new addition to my bodycare routine, but a necessity at that. I especially love to use this to exfoliate in areas like my armpits, elbow creases, and behind my knees. It smells amazing and leaves my skin incredibly smooth after using.
Indie Lee Destress Body Oil
Another favorite from Indie Lee, but their body products are really that good. This is a product that not only nourishes but also calms. I especially love to use this after a long day or in the evening after a workout along with the Destress Body Wash. Indie Lee sells some of my favorite bodycare products for glowing skin.
