Last week I wrapped up my second year of law school. The year was a trying one, to say the least. Obviously, the pandemic and virtual learning was probably the biggest challenge of the year, but I am glad to say that it’s behind me. Because my school year ended relatively early to other law schools, I hit the ground running when it came to treating myself to much-needed self-care. Here’s a recap of all the things I was able to experience in the week after completing my second year at Columbia Law School!
Sunday Self-Care: Paint N Pour Harlem
I was invited to attend a Paint N Pour class in Harlem, and I ended up having the most amazing time. I know a paint and sip class doesn’t immediately sound like self-care, but you have to understand that for the huge extrovert I am, getting out and being social is a true form of self-care for me. I missed dressing up and doing my makeup, so heading over to their Harlem location gave me the chance to do that. Things took a weird turn when I ended up attending the event alone at the last minute, but it worked out because I made new friends that I’m hoping to hang out with again soon! Overall I highly recommend taking your friends, date, or even acquaintances over to Paint n Pour this summer to have a good time.
Tuesday: Brow Appointment at Joey Healy Eyebrow Studio
On Tuesday I headed down to the Joey Healy Brow Studio near NYU to try something different for my brows. I had been thinking of how I could treat them to something different, especially as I had been hearing more and more about brow lamination. Joey Healy is a celebrity brow specialist and expert who gave me a five-star experience that was both luxe and information. I was able to have my brows tinted for the first time, and I even changed my mind about brow lamination once Joey was able to make me realize that the fluffy, coarse-textured brow is not something that should be passed up! I am truly amazed at how great my brows look now and how much of a difference the tinting made. I don’t even really need to use brow products! Even though I was provided a complimentary session this time around, I look forward to returning to the brow studio for routine maintenance.
Wednesday: Hair Appointment at Classic Beauty Studio
On Wednesday I stopped by Classic Beauty Studio in Brooklyn once again to get my hair done. At the end of March, I went to the studio for the first time to get my hair silk pressed. This time I opted for knotless braids in preparation for a trip that I’ll be taking very soon. I was able to maintain my initial silk press for weeks, even with working out every day, and when it was time, my hair reverted back to its 4c glory with no heat damage. Classic Beauty Studio is spacious, clean, professional, and offers various services to make sure you get everything you need in one sitting. I highly recommend it!
Thursday: Pedicure (through ClassPass)
I made a very last-minute decision to get a pedicure and easily booked an appointment the night before through ClassPass. If you don’t know, ClassPass is an app through which you can book numerous fitness, beauty, and wellness appointments at participating locations across New York City. I appreciate it because it allows me to book appointments that I would normally book separately, in one consolidated place.
Friday: Massage Appointment at Chillhouse Soho
On Friday, I once again used ClassPass to book a wellness appointment, this time at Chillhouse for a full body massage. I loved the atmosphere of Chillhouses’s flagship store in Soho. In addition to massages, they provide facials and manicures which are all available to book through ClassPass. My experience was so relaxing and it was definitely the end-of-week recovery I needed.
Saturday: Stay at Home
After a week of gallivanting across New York for various self-care appointments, I spent Saturday at home alternating between napping and curling up with a good book. This week of rest was definitely much needed, and I’m excited to take my restful mode out of the country for the first time since 2019.
“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.” Hebrews 4: 9-11
