Beach Please! Fenty Summertime Tutorial and Review

Fenty Beauty is back at it again with the newest  “Beach, Please!” collection.  This series includes shimmery liquid shadows, iridescent lip glosses and highlighters that double as eyeshadows. The release comes weeks after the launch of the popular Body Lavas and completes a collection meant to give buyers all they need to glow all summer long. Here are my thoughts on the Fenty products I used to achieve this subtle summery look!

Face

You already know the deal when it comes to the Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundations. I’ve had the foundation, primer, and match stix trios since the Fall 2017 launch of the brand but I never really found myself reaching for the foundation too often. Since the foundation oxidizes slightly, I wasn’t truly feeling the shade match. But now I can definitely say that I’ll be rocking this foundation much more this summer. Any oxidation will be fine when I take into account my summertime shade change which I’m already starting to see. I used the Pro Filt’r Primer and Foundation in the shade 430 for this look.

When it came to the match stix trios, my initial reaction was that “suede” was  too close to my skin tone and therefore too subtle to be an under eye concealer that I’d reach for often. You may not even be able to tell that I have any under eye concealer on but that’s actually perfect for the look I was now going for: a subtle summertime glow. Moral of the story: I like my fenty foundation and concealer products much more for a subtle, effortless summer look.

Glow

Fenty highlighters, specifically Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters, are hands down my favorite products of  Fenty’s entire collection. When I heard that new Killawatt highlighters were added to “Beach Please” collection, I knew I had to pick them up. I fell. in. love. with the orange shade called “mimosa sunrise” . By the way the Fenty site says these highlighters can be used as a blush as well as eyeshadow.

About a year ago I tried to pick up the famous fan favorite NARS blush in the shade “Taj Mahal” which is a really beautiful orange shade that supposedly looks gorgeous on deeper skin tones. I never found it in stores and it’s always out of stock online so I dropped that mission. “Mimosa sunrise” reminds me of everything that I wanted in that orange blush/highlighter from NARS. It’s a beautiful shade that blends right into the skin. Just look at it!

Eyes

Eyes are hands down my favorite part of a makeup look. I normally go all out with bold and bright colors but for this simple and light summertime glow look I opted to try the  the 2-in-1 Liquid Eye Shimmer in the color “Island Bling”. I was excited about the idea of a liquid shadow and when I first swatched it in the store– the deep metallic bronze looked like it could give a dewy and sparkly finish on the lid. Once you use the product however, you’ll find out that it applies as a liquid but dries down to a metallic finish.  The website instructs wearers to apply the lighter shade on top of the deeper bronze color for a “brand new hyper-prismatic shade”. I went ahead and tried that to see what the hype was because I really had no idea what “hyper-prismatic” is supposed to look like. To be honest, the new shade looked like your average gold shimmer shadow that you can get from so many other brands.

This 2-in-1 shimmer captures the effortlessness of a casual summer makeup look on the eyes.

Did these shadows blow me away? Not really. I will say though that these shadows are probably everything that people were hoping for from the galaxy palette. The shadows from that palette didn’t have much pigment, had a lot of fallout, and overall were  better as a topper on other shades rather than stand alone shadows.  On the other hand, these 2-in-1 liquid shimmers are MUCH more pigmented. Plus, if you’re going  for simplicity and portability, this is perfect for just that. As someone who usually uses various shades, palettes, and brushes to achieve an eye look, this 2-in-1 shimmer captures the effortlessness of a casual summer makeup look on the eyes. To keep it lightweight, I skipped eyeliner and just added the “Natalia” lashes from the House of Lashes x Sephora line.

Lips

Finished off the look with the classic Fenty Gloss Bomb. Self-explanatory. Perfect for when you want that shine and barely there color on the lips.

Bottom Line

Overall, I’d say the Killawatt Foils are the highlight of the new Fenty “Beach, Please!” collection (no pun intended). Already got the first Killawatt highlighters?  Looking to try some newer, bolder colors on your cheekbones–that you can also used on your eyelids? Go ahead and pick at least one up. If you’re thinking about picking up the 2-in-1 Liquid Shimmers, I’d definitely say test it out before you buy. You may not find it to be worth the $26 unless you really just want to support Fenty. I tried to like the Summer Daze/Summer Nights Iridescent Lip Trios but when I tried them on in store I just knew they weren’t my style so I’ll just stick with my Gloss bomb!
