My Makeup Removal Routine For Squeaky Clean Skin

Getting ready is fun, but how you remove your makeup is critical for your skin care. I’ve put a lot of emphasis on showing you how I put on my makeup so I figured it’s about time to share how I get “un-ready”. Here’s a list of my go-to products for my makeup removal routine.

Cleansing Oil: Boscia Makeup Breakup Oil

This may sound counterintuitive. Why would I want to add oil to my face? But as it turns out, oil actually breaks down makeup. Think about it, when does your makeup start to wear off? When your natural oils come through your pores and mi with your makeup. In the same way, I think every makeup wearer should always start with a makeup removing oil as the first step of their routine. For me, wipes simply did not do enough to break down long lasting, water-proof makeup on my eyes or lips. My favorite oil from Boscia is packed with hydrating nutrients. I recently ran out of this oil and tried to opt for Coconut oil as a more affordable option. While it worked, it wasn’t as great as my Boscia Oil and I ended up going back for it during the Sephora VIB sale. I’ve heard that the Clinique Cleansing Oil is also another great option.

Eye Makeup Bonus: Vaseline

Sometimes the first round of makeup removing with oil doesn’t get the residue of eye makeup off, especially if I used false lashes. Vaseline and a cotton pad are a fast and simple way to get ride of all that off extra glue and makeup. Just be sure to be gentle since the skin around your eye is very delicate.

Gel Cleanser: Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Because I essentially covered my face in oil to break down my makeup, it’s important to go in with another cleanser to counteract the oils left on my face. That’s why I like to go in with a gel cleanser since they are known for eliminating surface oil and acne-causing bacteria. My favorite gel cleanser from Cetaphil has a low lather formula, which means it doesn’t leave my skin feeling too dry like other gel cleansers do. I tend to be more generous when using this cleanser since it’s relatively affordable and I really want to get all the makeup off!

Brightening Cleanser: Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser*

Who doesn’t want glowing, radiant skin? That’s why I like to top off the bulk of my routine with yet another cleanser, this time for brightening. This brightening cleanser is my absolute favorite and a regular in my routine. It’s known to brighten skin and listed as great for makeup removal which is even better because that’s the whole point! The cleanser also doubles as an exfoliant if you leave it on for five minutes.

Micellar Water: Simple Micellar Water

Even though the process so far seems like a lot, you probably still have some makeup in hard to reach places like your “edges”, your jawline, and by your ear. I finish off my process by putting micellar water on a cotton pad and wiping it on my face to make sure I truly have gotten rid of all residue. It’s great because it is gentle on the skin and helps moisturize it at the same time.
