A Week in My Life as a Law Student and Content Creator

One of the most common questions I’m asked is how I’m able to balance law school with content creation. The answer is always by the grace of God, but I’m sharing this breakdown of a week in my life as a law student and content creator as a peek into what any given week might look like for me.

A Note on My Morning and Evening Routine

My morning and evening routine pretty much stays the same each day so unless otherwise mentioned, assume that each day starts and ends the same way. For the most part, my am routine consists of waking up, prayer, working out, showering, and doing my skincare, and if I have time having a cup of tea or coffee deepening on how I’m feeling. The only day I do not work out is Sunday. My evening routine typically consists of lighting a candle, taking a shower, and doing my evening skincare routine. This week my evening routine wasn’t the last thing I did before bed because I had a lot of work to get done, so instead, I used it as a way to break up my evenings and late nights. So now let’s get into a quick breakdown of this past week

Sunday

  • church service
  • photoshoot: this was the only time that worked for myself and my brother who came uptown to shoot some content for me. We normally don’t shoot on Sundays but his schedule is getting busier as he’s back in school. We shot four outfits.
  • Shoot a few reels: I took advantage of having my makeup done and shot a few reels both outfit and makeup.
  • edit photos: I took a look at some of the photos we took and selected the ones I wanted to post, including the one I posted on Instagram today!
  • evening walk: I may or may not be in a toxic relationship with my apple watch. But I also love going on walks to listen to music and generally clear my head.
  • evening clinic meeting: Sunday evenings I have team meetings for my clinic. This semester I’m in Columbia’s Immigrant Right’s Clinic working on a case for someone seeking asylum. The meeting typically lasts 1.5-2 hours but this week’s meeting was shorter because we decided to move the bulk of the meeting to Monday.
  • read for class the next day: This is self-explanatory. I have Fed Courts on Mondays so I spent the rest of my evening reading for the class.

Monday

  • Review and finish readings: I thought I was going to get called on today so I took a bit of time to review my readings before class
  • Fed Courts Class
  • Zoom Meeting with Asylum Case Expert: One of the components of an asylum application is an expert report that can speak to the conditions in the country of origin. My teammate and I met with an expert to discuss the case and how they could help.
  • Law Review Piece Editing: After the meeting and debrief, I grabbed lunch from Hamilton Deli and went over to the law review building to do some piece editing. I stayed there until around 5:45
  • Clinic Team Meeting: At 6 I had a team meeting and we discussed updates and next steps for our case. This meeting lasted until around 7:30
  • Then I spent the rest of the night working. By the way, I filmed this entire day in TikTok so you can check out what this looks like in action there (@enigivensunday).

Tuesday

  • Client Meeting: This was from 9 am to around 12 pm and happens every Tuesday.
  • Lunch hour: I didn’t actually have time to get lunch. I spent the hour sending emails to brands and working on my portion of a group assignment for my clinic.
  • Clinic Team Meeting: We have a scheduled meeting each Tuesday after client meetings to debrief the AM meeting and discuss the next steps.
  • After finishing the meeting at around 3:30 I was starving and finally had time to get some food, since I was so hungry I ended up buying lunch from Pret-a-Manger.
  • I came home and worked on school assignments before getting to my evening routine at 10 pm and working until 2 am on law review piece editing

Wednesday

  • I woke up this day an hour late because I was truly so tired, but also because my first class of the day was at 10 and not at 9
  • Fed Courts: Class was from 10 to noon
  • Content Submission: I came home from class to send the second draft of the content for the brand’s approval. They got back to me pretty quickly with approval so I posted the content on Instagram that afternoon.
  • Law review piece editing: I spent a little bit of time working on law review piece editing
  • Check-in call with social media manager: I recently signed with a talent agency and now have a manager to help me out with securing and keeping track of sponsorships. We had a 15-minute check-in call.
  • Back to law review piece editing
  • International conference call: I headed back to the law school for an international conference call related to my clinic work.
  • Early evening break: The day was overwhelming so I came home and took a moment to break before going on an evening walk.
  • Law review piece editing: I spent the rest of the night working on a law review piece until 2 am which is when I was too tired to work anymore.

Thursday

  • I overslept this day so I only had time for a 15-minute bike ride before doing the rest of my am routine
  • Client Meeting: The second client meeting of the week took place from around 9:30 to 11:30
  • Law Review Ad Board Meeting: As an essay editor on Law Review I’m on the ad board and we had an in-person meeting at the law review space from 12:10 to 1:10.
  • Clinic Team Meeting: To debrief the morning meeting and chat about the next steps, we met from around 1:30 to 2:30
  • Law review piece editing: I did this from around 3 to 4:30. Then I took a nap. I tried to resist it but by this point, in the day/week I was unbelievably tired
  • Law review piece editing part 2: I woke up and then worked on law review piece editing until 4 am. Yes, you read that correctly.

Friday

  • I woke up and headed to a nearby braiding salon to get my hair put in cornrows to wear under my wigs. This should help reduce the amount of time I spend doing my hair. Protective styles. for the win
  • I came home and did my morning routine as usual. I worked out and got ready for the rest of the day.
  • Clinic supervision meeting: My clinic team met with our supervising attorney to discuss updates from the case.
  • Brand ambassador welcome call: I recently signed to become a brand ambassador for one of my favorite skincare brands and I had a quick welcome call with the brand’s founder.
  • Law review piece editing: I rounded out the last bit of piece editing and submitted my work to another law review editor to review. This was a huge moment of relief because I had been working. on this day in and out through the last week
  • Facial at Glowbar: I had scheduled a facial at Glowbar and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. I had a great experience and plan on going back.
  • Once I got home I spent the rest of the evening relaxing before calling it a night and going to need at 11 pm. I got a much-needed 10 hours of sleep this night and work up the next day ready to enjoy my weekend.

It was definitely a jam-packed week in my life as a law student and content creator. The rest I got this weekend was much needed, but I’m incredibly grateful. for all that I get to do as I juggle these two roles.
