As much as I hate New York winters, I fall in love with New York every summer (minus the smell of hot garbage). As a millennial, it can be pretty difficult to find ways to have fun that don’t involve brunch. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good brunch/day party combo—yes, I’m talking about you, Woodland and Angel of Harlem—but sometimes it feels as if that’s all there is to do in New York. That’s totally wrong. New York summers are more than brunch and day parties. If you’re looking for some fun things to do in NYC for Summer 2019, whether it’s for a girls day out or a date, look no further.
Disclaimer: In true New York fashion, all of the suggestions on this list come with a cost. There are definitely free activities out there (picnic in Central Park, museums, free summer concerts, etc.) Those just take a little more research and come on a case by case basis.
Let’s get to it…
Rosé Mansion
For when you want to do it for the gram, but need a little buzz to help you pose. The Rosé Mansion is every pink and rosé lovers dream. This spot has 14 rooms dedicated to learning the history and art of rosé making, and you’ll get to indulge in some as well. You’ve probably seen your fair share of pics of this place on IG so I think you get the picture!
Color Factory
Also for when you want to do it for the gram but want to keep it PG too. The Color Factory is an interactive, pop-up art exhibition based on—you guessed it—color. It reminds me a lot of the Pint Shop, just much larger, so if you liked that when it came to New York last summer, you’ll probably like this too.
Paint N’ Pour
For when you want to express your artistic side and let loose at once. You may have heard of paint and sips before. You may have even gone to one. Paint N’ pour is a totally different vibe and experience. Based in Harlem, Paint N’ Pour gives you the perfect opportunity to have fun and be productive. A ticket comes with all the materials you need for your painting (which you get to keep by the way) plus an open bar of their signature cocktails! The spot also serves food at an additional cost. For those of you who need a litle music to get you in an artistic zone, Paint N’ Pour comes correct with the tunes. If you didn’t get a chance to see my experience live when I posted it on my IG stories last week, just know that I had an amazing time.
Dinner & Movie
For when you want to get cozy but be fancy at the same damn time. Yes, this isn’t a new idea for a date or evening out, but before you blow this idea off know that I’m not talking about your average movie at your local hood theater. Take your talents somewhere nice. A place with reclining chairs and even an in house restaurant and bar, so that you don’t have to go through the hassle of figuring out pre or post dinner arrangements. iPic Theaters at Fulton street gives you all you need to enjoy a bougie movie date experience. If you’re done early, you can take a walk along South Street Seaport for some amazing views.
Hand Lettering Class
For when you want to acquire a new skill and decompress. When the Paper Source in Soho invited me to a hand lettering class, I must admit I almost backed out at the last minute. I’m so glad I decided to go, albeit by myself, to learn a new and valuable skill. The instructor Nora was so amazing and detailed in her instruction. I even learned how to emboss! On top of that, the store provided a very calm atmosphere. I definitely walked away learning a lot. Now, I feel prepared to create my own cards for gifts or special occasions.
The Cliffs at LIC
For when you want to get active. Ok so this is slightly unrelated but not really. You know how those stars of reality TV shows have get togethers but doing the most random but also cool things. Indoor Rock climbing at the Cliffs LIC location is probably one of those things they would do and you should too. Besides, you know I had to show some love to Queens, New York. Also I hear rock climbing is good for the booty *wink, wink*
WHAT’S SOMETHING FUN YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR CITY DURING THE SUMMER?
“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.” Ecclesiastes 3:12-13
