I love a beat face, full glam look. I always like to say there are two versions of me: absolutely no makeup, and absolutely full glam. But lately I’ve been experimenting with something in between: a natural “no makeup makeup” look. Brands certainly could do a better job of tailoring light weight makeup products to dark skin, but there are some that are doing a not so bad job. So I’m sharing my favorite products for a natural makeup look on dark skin.
Foundation: Thrive Causemetics Buildable Blur CC Cream
In order to make a natural makeup look on dark skin work, you most definitely have to have a reliable base—either a foundation or a CC cream (or just your skin if you’re lucky). The Thrive buildable blur CC cream is great because it acts as a foundation, sunscreen and moisturizer all in one to give you that skin like finish.
Foundation: Flesh Beauty Thickstick Foundation
If you’re in the mood for a natural looking foundation that has a bit more coverage, the Thickstick from Flesh beauty has you covered, literally. Because it’s a stick foundation you can use it to spot cover anything like dark spots or blemishes rather than applying it to your whole face. The shade range is extensive which makes it more likely that you’ll find the right one for you.
Concealer: Kosas Revealer Concealer
For a natural makeup look on dark skin, I’d say concealer is very optional. But long nights of law school reading leave me with tired eyes that I want to wake up. The Kosas Revealer Concealer is probably one of the most hydrating concealers I’ve ever owned. The finish is very natural and its got ingredients that will help plump, smooth, and brighten your under eye area.
Setting powder: Kosas Cloud Set Setting Powder
If you’ve got oily skin, your makeup look won’t be complete without a setting powder. But because we’re going for a natural makeup look, it’s important to go for a powder that’s lightweight so it won’t leave your face cakey. The Kosas Cloud Set provides sheer coverage while also including skincare ingredients to minimize the look of pores and control oil production.
Highlight: Highlight of the Day Illuminating Serum
My favorite part of a natural makeup look on dark skin is the chance to make my skin look dewy and shiny—in a good way! The Maya Chia Illuminating Serum is packed with natural ingredients to give you a subtle yet glamorous glow. If you couldn’t tell by the award stamps above, it’s that good!
Blush: Merit Flush Balm Cream Blush
Merit Beauty is a recently launched clean beauty brand that’s meant to bolster your arsenal of minimalist makeup products. The blush comes in a lightweight balmy finish to provide a tint of color to your cheeks.
Blush: Fenty Beauty Cream Blush
Fenty Beauty has certainly become a household name, and their cream blushes have become a favorite of mine for it’s ability to give a softer flush of color to the cheeks. For a natural makeup look on dark skin, the “rose latte” shade is the perfect shade.
Mascara: Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara
The award winning Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash extensions mascara will dramatically lengthen your lashes without giving it a clumpy or smudgy look. That’s the key for a natural makeup look!
Mascara: Glossier Lash Slick
The Glossier Lash Slick is another great mascara option for a natural makeup look. It helps that the packaging is in my favorite millennial pink color too!
Those are my favorite products to achieve a natural makeup look on dark skin, feel free to comment with any of your favorite products to achieve this kind of look as well!
