I’ve been blogging for almost a year now. While I’ve been able to maintain my goal of posting every Sunday, there are certainly times when I run out of motivation to do so. Here are some tips for how to stay motivated as a blogger.
Go Back To The Goal
Why did you start your blog in the first place? If you don’t know, it’s definitely time to figure that out. If you do, let that serve as a mission statement of sorts. Whether you posted it on the about me section of your blog or wrote it down in a content planning notebook, stay rooted in your goal as a blogger.
Stay grounded in what you set out for your blog to do. Then do it.
Did you want to just have an outlet for yourself? If so, check out some writing prompts to get your expressive juices flowing again. Are you going through a life transition and want to create content for others sharing the experience to relate to? If that’s the case, go back to your stats and find out which blog posts devoted to your niche have done the best. See if you can find ways to create a post on a similar topic or expand it into a series. Stay grounded in what you set out for your blog to do. Then do it.
Check Yourself, Then Ask For Help
Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to others when you’ve got people who interested in reading what you put out there.
Are you feeling uninspired? Or are you just upset with low engagement and angry at Instagram’s ever changing algorithm? There’s nothing wrong with wanting more engagement. However in the grand scheme of things, there is a lot more to blogging and influencing than the number of people who double tap a screen when they see your face. Like whether the people who have been engaging with your content from the start actually enjoy it. (Or whether you enjoy creating it!) Ask those loyal readers for feedback. If you ask them for what they enjoyed the most, most would share their thoughts with enthusiasm and feel honored that you cared to ask. Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to others when you’ve got people interested in reading what you put out there.
Save Positive Feedback
It’s very easy to feel like your blog is not having an impact. You don’t need thousands of people telling you how awesome your blog is for it to matter. If it helps only a handful of people, that alone is enough. Whenever someone reaches out to me with an email or DM sharing how much they enjoy my blog, I copy it and save it to a note on my phone devoted to positive feedback. When I’m feeling uninspired I go back to those saved notes to remind myself that my blog posts help readers in some way.
Catch A Break
That’s it. Sometimes you’re not feeling uninspired. Sometimes you’re just overwhelmed. You mind has been rambling through the same stressful thoughts of comparison or inadequacy over and over again. No one will be mad at you for taking a break to give yourself time to refocus and reset.
