Top 5 Series: Best Contours For Dark Skin

Hey loves! I’m back at it again with another post for my top 5 series! I’ve already covered foundations and concealers and this post has you covered for all things contouring and bronzing. If you don’t already know, contouring is a process by which you define and sculpt the structure of your face. Most people typically contour to define their cheekbones, jawline, perimeter of forehead and maybe even the nose. In order to effectively sculpt and define, contouring has to happen with a concealer or powder that is darker than your skin tone. The only problem is that in beauty market that doesn’t cater to dark skin, the right contour can be really hard to come by. The contours I’ve listed are brown girl friendly and come in clutch for a SNATCHED contour.

Fenty Match Stix – “Espresso”

This was probably the most life changing product of the Fenty launch last year. I don’t think I truly knew what it meant for a contour to leave you snatched until I had this in my arsenal. It is truly a deep dark shade that is just right for the contour I need. Because it is in stick form, it is super easy to apply to my face. I usually just swipe the product on straight to the areas of my face I want to define. The only sort of downside is the concealer’s stiffness. It takes a bit of work to blend in with a beauty blender but once you do…..WHEW CHILE.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer – “61H Espresso”

This concealer found its way on my list for my top concealers post so it shouldn’t be surprising that it’s back on this list again. Tarte recently expanded the shade ranges of it’s concealers and so the deepest shade may be a new one. Either way, the concealer is super creamy, dark enough to contour and the Fenty match stix super easy to blend in.  Definitely on the fuller coverage end of the spectrum but worth a shot if you’re already familiar with Tarte shape tape products.

Bobbi Brown Bronzer- “Deep”

There’s a time and a place for a full coverage glam contour and sometimes you may not be in the mood for it. Bronzers are a solid way to still add some depth to your face without a thicker or darker concealer. This product was my first bronzer that I picked up because it was featured in a video by—you guessed it— Jackie Aina. I’ve had it for a couple of years and I definitely have reached the point where I can see the metal bottom of the pan. Clearly I’ve gotten a lot of uses out of this. It’s deep enough, warm enough, and subtle enough to give me the contour I need for lighter makeup days or on top of a cream concealer contour I’ve already laid on underneath.

Sacha Cosmetics Blush – “Matte Brown”

Beauty Hack! Sometimes you may have to branch outside of bronzers and concealers to find the perfect contour! I found this perfect contour when I started browsing blush sections to see if there were powders deep enough to be a contour. Lo and behold Sacha Cosmetics had one! I was pretty confident in my purchase because Sacha makes the buttercup setting powder which a lot of people, including myself, use. Keep in mind a little goes a very long way. I’d advise applying lightly at first and building it up as needed.

Juvia’s Place Saharan Blush Palette – “Aby”

This is another contouring powder that’s lowkey a blush but definitely deep enough to actually be a contour. When I say deep I mean DEEP. It’s featured as a product  used in my summertime haul YouTube tutorial and review so for more details check that out! The plus side about this contour is that it comes in a palette with 5 other blushes or highlights so it’s very cost effective since its $18!

Final Thoughts

As always, not an exhaustive list and I am always on the hunt for more contouring products. If you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments below! As always, thanks so for reading!
