Hey loves! It’s another beautiful Sunday so I am back with this latest post on how I combat hyperpigmentation. This is probably my biggest skin concern. I do suffer from an occasional break out when I give in to my cravings for sweets or whenever it’s that time of the month—but nothing major. After a few days, the pimples go away but there is definitely still proof that they were there. Acne scars and dark spots last for weeks or even months after my breakouts. I must admit, I have a terribly bad habit of touching and picking at my face when I break out so that makes scarring even worse. A few weeks back when I posted a review on ColourPop’s Jelly Much eyeshadow, it was very clear that I was dealing with a lot of scarring, specifically on one side of my face. I went on a serious hunt for products that would bring me an even skin tone. Here’s a full list of what worked for me!
Olay Luminous Line
This right here was a game changer for me. A combination of Jackie Aina’s collab and a personal friend who works with the brand inspired me to check out their Luminous line. This line is meant to target concerns of acne scars and uneven skin tone. So basically it was exactly what I was looking for. I purchased the Miracle Boost Concentrate, Tone Perfecting Cream, and Brightening & Protecting Lotion with SPF. I used Miracle Boost as instructed, right after I cleansed and dried my skin. Then I would apply the brightening lotion and be on my merry way to work! That’s it! At night I’d do the same thing but apply the tone perfecting cream instead. Within a week I noticed changes in my skin. There was a subtle glow and and a few weeks later there were clear signs of improvement for my acne scars. I never expected to see such results from a drugstore brand but I’m definitely keeping this line in my collection.
Summer Fridays Overtime Mask
I had heard a lot of hype about the Jet Lag Mask from this brand. I wasn’t interested in the Jet Lag mask because dryness wasn’t my issue, uneven skin tone was. The newly released Overtime Mask was just what I needed. While I don’t think it actually is responsible for fading dark spots, my skin was glowing after I used it. It claims to polish away dead skin cells so I assume there is a correlation between getting rid of dead skin cells and getting rid of dark spots.
Sunday Riley Luna Night Sleeping Oil
This product is an old favorite of mine paired with the Lactic Acid Serum. But I must admit the product is simply too pricey for me to use on a daily basis. I relied much more heavily on the Olay Luminous line to give me results but I know for a fact Sunday Riley products work miracles. There’s retinol in the Sleeping Oil which is known to effectively reduce acne scars and hyperpigmentation. The morning after I use this product my skin looks and feels beyond amazing. I’d suggest getting your hands on the power duo which I’ve linked in the heading above.
Water
And I don’t mean putting it on your skin although you obviously should be washing your face. You have to be sure to drink enough water because that’ll ensure your skin is healthy enough to fully and quickly rejuvenate. I know when I don’t get enough water in during the day I’m left with dull and dry skin that’s more likely to break out and leave me with even more scars. Drink up!
Final Thoughts
Those were the key products I used to almost completely get rid of my biggest acne scars. I want to end by saying even if you have all the products in the world, prescribed by a dermatologist or not, you’ll never see changes if you’re not consistent. Commit to your routine and stick to it every day. Take pictures to mark your progress because it’s hard to see the improvements on your own!
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Rather it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
