Must-Have Travel Skin Care Items

is week marks the official start of summer! As a teacher that means a few weeks off for rest, relaxation and travel! Even if you’re the average person who has a job that requires year round work, chances are you may be able to fit in a little summer travel. I plan taking a couple of trips this summer and I know just how important skin care can me. Whether its a short trip to celebrate the 4th of July, a destination wedding, or a week long vacation abroad, it’s critical that you still give your skin the TLC it deserves. Imagine coming back from a vacation relaxed and renewed only to break out days after because you weren’t consistent with a routine during the trip. While you won’t be able to bring a whole arsenal of skin care products, here’s what you’ll absolutely need to maintain healthy skin while you travel:

Makeup Remover Oil

It’s safe to say that most people travel with makeup remover wipes anytime they travel. Recently I made the switch from remover wipes to oil. I know what you’re thinking. Oil? Isn’t that like the worst thing for your skin? It’s got to be bound to clog your pores? Here’s where I tell you to reconsider. Makeup remover oils often include essential oils to keep the skin from drying out. And while makeup wipes run the risk of drying out, remover oil does not. Oil is especially great for for breaking down layers of makeup if you had a fully beat face. My top picks for makeup remover oil are Boscia MakeUp BreakUp Cleansing Oil and Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil,  both of which come in a travel size. Coconut oil also serves as a cheaper alternative to these cleansing oils.

Facial Wash/Cleanser

So maybe you’re someone who doesn’t plan on wearing a lot of makeup when you travel either because you don’t wear it normally or because you just wont need to. Makeup remover oils may not be necessary but you’ll definitely need to keep your face clean. If you’re out an about throughout the day you till catch buildup of dirt, dust and debris. Facial wash is important at home and especially when you’re way for those obvious reasons. For travel I normally stick to the Soy Face Cleanser Mini or the travel size Kate Somerville Exfolikate Cleanser. Don’t be discouraged by the prices of those cleansers because facial washes don’t need to be fancy or expensive. There are plenty of affordable options like the Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash. The point is find a facial wash that works for your skin and make sure to bring it when you travel!

Toner

If you’re not already incorporating a toner into your daily skin care routing, you need to get hip. Toner has numerous benefits ranging from shrinking your pores to balancing your skin’s pH. A popular and affordable option is the Pixi Glow Tonic. If you’ve got a little more to spend on a toner you can try the Claudale Beauty Elixir. Once again the key takeway is find whatever works for you but make sure you pack a toner.

Moisturizer

This is an absolute MUST when you travel. Traveling, especially flying, dries out your skin. On top of that, our skin gets a lot of hydration from the water we consumer. If you’re traveling to a country where drinking tap water isn’t advised, it’s likely you’re not hydrating as much as you should since bottled water is more tedious to come by. Grabbing a moisturizer with SPF is an added bonus. There are an endless amount of moisturizers you can pack from serums like the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir and creams like Kiehl’s Ulta Facial Cream. The E.L.F Illuminating Moisturizer is an affordable and effective option as well. As long as you get a toner that’s proven to be best for your skin type you should be good!

Bottom Line:

You’ve got to be proactive about caring for your skin while you travel. All of these items I’ve shared are routines you should be incorporating into your daily skincare routine, not just when you travel. But when you do get ready to pack those bags and head to a new or familiar destination and you’re pressed for space, these items should take top priority. Of course you can add the masks and serums and everything else but makeup remover, cleanser, toner, and moisturizer lay at the foundation of a successful travel skin care routine!
